We are Pili Marqués and Juan José Baró, owners of Granja la Fondaña. We have a family business and artisan of traditional cheeses. The origin of our company comes from our ancestors to be children and grandchildren of farmers and ranchers.
In 1994, we started our new journey as cheesemakers with the Quesos Benabarre brand, which meant moving from the primary sector as livestock farmers to the transformation of the raw material into products that are prepared and marketed ready to reach the final consumer. From this moment on, we gradually made ourselves known at fairs and markets, mainly in Aragon and Cataluña, as well as opening our own store. Over the years we have participated in fairs in other parts of the geography (Catalonia and Euskadi). Also, in gastronomic contest for example in Madrid Gourmet.
In our farm live more than 600 goats of excellent breed for milk production both for quality and abundance. The welfare and feeding of our goats is essential, which is why they eat natural pastures, acorns, alfalfa, thyme, rosemary, wild berries and cereals, thus giving us very good quality milk with all the sanitary controls. Benabarre Cheese products are made using only goat’s milk from our own farm; there are no mixtures of other cheaper milk or other qualities.
Those who come to visit us can see and touch the goats and their young, participate in the milking and know firsthand the process of making the cheese, how to cut it and keep it and also pairing tips for each product.
In our company, from the first day we have had the doors open to show the agricultural and livestock activity, how the goats are milked, the elaboration of the cheese, the cava and the refining of our products to all those who want to visit us, and here groups of schoolchildren, associations of housewives, hotel and tourism schools, students of Agricultural Schools, both from Spain and France, groups of the elderly, consumer associations and the general public have passed. Everyone who wants to visit us will be welcome. We are in a great place both for the weather and for the landscape that surrounds us.
